The social, the material, and the ontology of non-material technological objects

چکیده

Recent calls for more attention to the impact of the material in organizing processes tend to neglect the non-material nature of many of the technological objects that populate our world. We address this shortcoming by setting out a theory of non-material technological objects, a central feature of which is the distinction between such objects and what we call their bearers. We then use this theory to elaborate various key features of computer files, to generalise Faulkner and Runde’s recent theory of the identity of technological objects, and in a critical evaluation of the emerging Sociomateriality perspective. Acknowledgments: we are grateful to Nathan Crilly, Martin Kilduff, Wanda Orlikowski and participants at the Judge Us seminar, Cambridge Judge Business School, June 2010, for helpful comments on earlier drafts of this paper.

Optical Analyzer for Continuous Monitoring of Dissolved Oxygen in Aviation Fuel and Other Non-aqueous Media

A special sensitive element based on the novel composite material was created. The sensor has a linear calibration and is resistant to aliphatic hydrocarbons, in particular aviation fuel. A low cost and easy-to-implement method for calibrating the sensor was proposed. Temperature dependence of the oxygen mass transfer coefficient kL was measured for aviation fuel TS-1 (Russi...

Analytical Studies and Identification of Production Process in the Glass Objects from the Underground Hand-Made Architectural Complex of Arzanfood, Hamedan

Study on the production technology in ancient glass artefacts is one of the interesting subject in the field of archaeological sciences. The aim of this study is to identify the chemical composition and production technology in the glass objects discovered form the underground hand-made architectural complex of Arzanfood, near Hamedan, in western Iran. These objects are including some broken pi...

Delamination of Two-Dimensional Functionally Graded Multilayered Non-Linear Elastic Beam - an Analytical Approach

Delamination fracture of a two-dimensional functionally graded multilayered four-point bending beam that exhibits non-linear behaviour of the material is analyzed. The fracture is studied analytically in terms of the strain energy release rate. The beam under consideration has an arbitrary number of layers. Each layer has individual thickness and material properties. A delamination crack is loc...
